In this addition of our new series of blogs: ‘Digging Deeper, we take a closer look at the ground-breaking technology behind the award-winning PULSAR® LED Active Range – which consists of two waterproof Storm Coats and a Harness.

The Storm Coats, essentially, are the same garment as our standard Unlined Storm Coats – made up of the same Class 3 waterproof and breathable fabric and incorporate all the same beneficial features, including reflective piping detail to the pockets, underarm ventilation for increased breathability and a full length 2-way YKK zip. All we have done is integrated our Active technology…

This means that the LED Storm Coats (the ACT500 and ACT650) and the Harness (ACT350) have 11 embedded LED’s, all of which have 3 different light modes – Soft Flash, Rapid Flash and Constant. The modes are pretty self-explanatory but ultimately are as follows:

Soft Flash – Slow intermittent flash giving up to 20 hours battery life.

Rapid Flash – Faster flash mode giving up to 15 hours battery life.

Constant – Permanently on mode, giving up to 10 hours battery life.

Having 3 different light modes allows flexibility for the wearer and means they can adapt to different light conditions, ensuring the garment is always performing at the maximum for whatever situation they find themselves in.

Both Storm Coats and Harness come with a detachable and rechargeable control box, which charges from flat to full charge in just 5 hours. The control box is charged by a mini USB lead included with the garment and is a very simple way of charging as USB sockets are a commonly found in the home and throughout the workplace.

Of course, when designing and manufacturing all our garments, the safety of the wearer is always paramount and our number one priority – this is why we made the decision to ensure every garment in the LED Active Collection comes with an ICEid Tag.

ICE stands for ‘In Case of Emergency’ and is a fantastic piece of technology that could potentially save somebodies life. How do you use the tag? It’s simple:

  • Attach the tag to your zip or anywhere in a safe location on your garment.
  • Head over to https://iceid.me/ to register your tag and upload all of your emergency details e.g. Emergency contact details, and medication details etc
  • Your unique Alphanumeric and QR code will be created which can then be scanned by first responders and helpers in an emergency – quickly providing them with all of your vital emergency information.

We are always looking to innovate the market and do things that set us apart from the rest of the pack – and this collection of protective clothing is a perfect example of that. It has also been recognised and received numerous awards such as PPE Product Innovation of the Year at the 2019 PCIAW Professional Clothing Awards, along with also being named as a finalist in the 2018 Tomorrow’s Health and Safety Awards.
